Catwalk down memory lane

Cycle 1 - Love is in the Air

In this cycle, Valentine's day was fast approaching! All three of us were at different stages in our lives. T is in a steady relationship where she talks about a date night in Enchant Me. J on the other hand is single, available and ready to mingle! In her blog, Wherefore art thou, mon amour? She talks about seeking love. Finally our little K, talks about Young Love, don't we all remember our first love :) We had our first group post in Be Strong Juliet

Cycle 2 - A-list Fashion

Here we are talking about A-list fashion, what do celebrities do? T talks about glaming up a simple out with accessories in Biglamous. Next J talks about the complete opposite where we dress down in Backstage Pass. This cycle we lost K as she has to focus in school so we did Centre Stage, using our role models as inspiration to our outfits.

Cycle 3 - Party like a Rockstar

The last cycle was close to T's birthday and we have decided to do a party theme! We all need ideas to host a party and T's first one is a masquerade themed party in Lace Love. J's post the week after is an experience all girls definitely share! Chuffin' 'ell, I 'av nowt t'wear!  Finally, we have the big party and wedding where we showcased a lot of different styles from all these lovely ladies in Les Filles de la Mode. So don't miss out!

Here we have the cycle round up of Dashion-hime so far! Do you have a favourite cycle? If so, do let us know at the comments section!

As we have mentioned in the video above, we are working on something special for you guys! Follow us on twitter: @dashionhime and instagram: @dashionhime for updates!

Lace love

In this cycle, there are a lot of birthdays of people I know coming up, including my own :). So we are going to be doing some birthday ideas!

There are going to be a few changes starting from this cycle. Our dear K has to leave us, but there is still J and myself to keep this going! Now because we have K's slot open, we are going to have a week where we feature designs that are inspired by the cycle! If you have some good designs that you want us to feature on the blog, you can email it to us on dashion.hime@gmail.com or hashtag us on instagram for #dashionhime! You can also see some of our own!

Now to begin with, to my dear childhood buddy, Julian,

a big fat HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I love birthday parties, it's a chance to dress up, get together and have fun with your friends. Birthday parties are always way more fun with your closest friends.  Now put on a mask with your best friend and you will do crazy things.

"We all have a social mask, right? We put it on, we go out, put our best foot forward, our best image.  But behind that social mask is a personal truth , what we really, really believe about who we are and what were capable of." - Phil McGraw

I agree with Phil McGraw, we all act a certain way when we are with people. Only a few people in our lives can really see us be ourselves at all times and usually those are the people who love and care about you the most.

J has been one of my best friends since I was eight, when I'm with her I definitely strip away my social mask. Only when you are with people who you are very comfortable with, you can be yourself completely. Even if you are acting like a complete fool, you know they will love you because you are just being you.

Masquerade theme parties are always fun, it adds a sense of mysterious and excitement when everyone is wearing their mask! You can be anyone you want to be, a beautiful stranger.  We are all braver behind a mask because it's like a protection of our identity. We can do things that we never would without a mask.  Hence the previous statement of doing crazy things with your best friend as you know they will prompt you to go futher than you would.

For this idea, I have decided to draw my own lace mask to match a lace outfit. It is quite simple to do and definitely a lot of fun if you enjoy a little bit of art. All I used was a black eyeliner to draw the designs for Me and J. At the end I dabbed some black eye shadow over it to make it look like a see through layer of fabric. For my lips I used the same YSL Rouge Laque in Enchant me to add some colour to the outfit.

I matched it with a lace dress I got when I was in Vancouver this February.  It is from Urban Behavior. In our first blog Passion for Dashion I have mentioned in my short introduction that I love lace because it could be classy, sexy and fun :) The dress that J wore was also featured by me in her blog Wherefore art thou, mon amour?

We are both wearing high heels from Steve Madden. High heels are the best inventions ever. It just elongates your legs and make them look so much more nicer. J's patterned heels were previously featured in Be strong, Juliet .

With this look, you are now ready to attend a masquerade party and have a blast with your best friends! And here's a little sneak peak of how I really am when I am with people I am close with :)

Next week we have J's blog coming up! Don't forget to follow us on twitter: @dashionhime and instagram: @dashionhime for updates!

Be strong, Juliet

“Dear Claire, "What" and "If" are two words as non-threatening as words can be. But put them together side-by-side and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life: What if? What if? What if? I don't know how your story ended but if what you felt then was true love, then it's never too late. If it was true then, why wouldn't it be true now? You need only the courage to follow your heart. I don't know what a love like Juliet's feels like - love to leave loved ones for, love to cross oceans for but I'd like to believe if I ever were to feel it, that I will have the courage to seize it. And, Claire, if you didn't, I hope one day that you will. All my love, Juliet"

I love the above quote from the movie “Letters to Juliet”, I think it is beautiful and the words are so inspiring. Everybody is afraid, no one likes to take a risk. When it comes to love, we are all afraid. Who wants to be rejected? The truth is, if you don’t make that first step, you will never find out “what might’ve been” and live with the regret forever. It is risk that NEEDS to be taken, it's not good for your heart to keep something like that to yourself. The weight just keeps growing and then one day, you want to burst; kick yourself for not saying anything and now it's too late.

Nobody likes to be rejected but loving someone is nothing to be ashamed of. There comes a time when we need to learn that we don't need a partner to feel good about ourselves. We have to learn about self-love and boost our own confidence. Be comfortable in your own skin, love yourself, learn to enjoy the time spent alone.

Juliets, move on from a guy who rejects you. I know you hear it all the time but it really is his loss. Think about this: All you lost is someone who doesn't love you, yet he lost someone who does loves him.

It may sound cliché, but before and above all, we have to learn to love ourselves. It is a vital component in the grand scheme of things/life - whether you are in a relationship or not.

Think of it in this sense (again, throwing in some mathematics!): let's just take the example of the saying that 'a romantic bond is the joining of two halves' ...

You = 1/2
Your love = 1/2
1/2 (You) + 1/2 (Your love)= 1 <-- Uh, 'to become whole'

But if you don't learn to love yourself...

0 + 1/2 (your love)= 1/2 <-- it still isn't complete.

Of course, it isn't as simple as 1-2-3, but the point here is, when one is in love, we become another's foundation as well as they become ours; it is a 'fulfilling' mechanism - whereby by having our self-love, we fulfill the one-half of the relationship to give to our partners. Personally, I differentiate slightly between self-love and confidence: being confident does not necessarily mean self-loving; but to self-love is to also be confident.

Believe it or not, the way to this is to find your passion. Be it fashion, dancing, jogging, graphic designing, knitting, gardening, baking, etc. - when you find your passion and set your mind to it, you will find that you've opened up another world for yourself: one where you would learn to grow, develop and love yourself, for yourself, by yourself. It is such a great feeling of individuality. When this individuality comes in, your self naturally radiates self-love, self-respect and confidence; of course you would, when you have something of your own, so dear to you, that you would lose if you don't take care of yourself!

Yet, every person wants to be loved, not just in the way your significant other would love you, family and friends provide us with the love we need and deserve. Family and Friends love you differently than how a girlfriend/boyfriend would love you: When you have a girlfriend /boyfriend, you love them, care for them, you think that they are your entire world; but when you break up, then what? You stop loving them, you stop caring for them, you think that they are a waste of time. Love from family and friends are entirely different, they will always be there for you no matter what, they are the ones you can count on.

We cannot go through life alone as it would be impossible, which is why we are surrounded by family and friends.  They are the most important people in your life. They are the ones who support you, and take every step with you along the way. They are there for you when you have your ups and downs. Even if you’re angry at them, no matter how hard you try to push them away, they will always stay with you and go through the toughest things in life.

Let us take a closer look what each one of us are wearing for Valentine's day.

T has matched her no brand pink dress with leopard prints to make it more interesting and sassy.  The handbag is from Staccato and the wedges are from Steve Madden. T's hairdo is a ribbon made of her hair to add elegance as well.

The eye shadow and eyeliner are from MAC cosmetics.

J's look is sexy and fun with leopard prints and the bold use of red. Her top is from Tkmaxx, red jeans from river island and red tube top is from Primark. Her shiny wedges are from Steven Madden.
J's makeup is simple and focused on her red lips (Maxfactor red lip tint). Puckerup for Valentine's day!

Last but not least, K's outfit is simple but fun with the mix and match of colours. Though her dress from Forever 21 is pink, she has matched it with her blue wedges, also from Forever 21.  That is afterall, her trademark: mismatch, but it works great!

This is the end of our first cycle, we hope you liked it, enjoyed it and got inspired by it! We wish you had a wonderful Valentine's day, whether you spent it alone, with your significant other, family or friends :)

Enchant Me

"Enchant me"

Every girl grew up imagining what her Prince Charming is going to be like.  He must be perfect just like in the fairytales we know. Prince Charming will ride on his white horse, sweep us off our feet and carry us to the castle where we will live happily ever after.

No matter how cynical or realistic any girl is, this thought was in our head once upon a time.  We had such strong faith in love.

We have all dreamed about our perfect date. "He" will blow us away with all these romantic gestures.  It will be over the top and cheesy, but we will love it.

"I think you're a hopeless romantic who's discovered that romance is hopeless." - Michaela Conlin (May in Enchanted)
This is one of my favourite movie quotes.  I think it applies to every single girl out there, whether they figured it out sooner or later. Reality kicks in; boys in the real world are no Prince Charming. We come to realize that and all we really want in the end is for the boys to show that they care. Simple!

Enchanted is one of my all time favourite movies, it best describes every girl out there. We come into this world full of hope, faith and love.  Just like Giselle we believe happily ever after is that simple, but in reality... Love may not be how we have always imagined as a young girl, but every girl deserves to be treated as a princess once in a while.

I love how Giselle was introduced to the concept of "a date".  A perfect date night for me is where my "Prince Charming" is willing to make the effort of dressing up and taking me out on a romantic candlelight dinner.

"Morgan honey, just because she has on a funny dress doesn't mean she's a princess.  She's a seriously confused woman who's fallen into our laps." - Patrick Dempsey (Robert Phillip in Enchanted)
Girls love to put on their best and be appreciated.  As yummy as Patrick Dempsey is, I seriously hope my date will not think I'm a loony like him. But we should remember the wise words of 6 year old Morgan from Enchanted!
"Remember when you go out not to put too much make up otherwise the boys will get the wrong idea and you know how they are..." - Rachel Covey (Morgan Phillip in Enchanted)
I used L'oreal's beige harmony for my eyeshadow and MAC's black liquid eyeliner (my all time favourite) for the eye makeup. For my lips, I used YSL's Rouge Laque for a more daring colour.
Date night is the perfect time to "Enchant Me" - impress your partner. "Everything looks better under the candlelight!" - the wise words of me. :) The delicious food, gorgeous view, good wine and most importantly, the great company.

Boys, we really do like to be pampered once in awhile. We're not asking for a lot, just for you to show that you care enough to make an effort!

Now, let us have a closer look on what I chose to wear for this lovely date with my "Prince Charming".

Black jacket - Prada
White Dress - Forever 21
Belt - unknown
Handbag - Louis vuitton
Shoes - Pedder Red
Jewellery set - Bejewelled Bespoke Designs

I decided to go with the theme of black, white and gold.  It is simple but elegant. With my red lips, it made the entire outfit more interesting.  Most importantly, it made me feel like a princess :)

I prefer jewellery that has a character to it, not the commercialized ones. I am always searching for local designers, those jewellery are usually handmade and unique. I came across this set at a Bazaar in Discovery Bay. This designer sources her own stones as she travels. I fell in love with the set because you can wear it with really dressed up clothing like I did for this blog or even just casual-wear. It's so versatile.  I definitely made good use of it :)

That's all for this week! Our next blog will come out next Friday, written by our lovely J. Keep an eye out! Leave us your thoughts :)
